Called to Serve!

A CALL FOR YOUNG ADULT SISTERS (& brothers!)

The Relief Society general presidency is inviting you to do something special for someone else. Gather with one or more friends and serve! Let us know about your experience at reliefsociety@ldschurch.org. Invite everyone you know; blog about it! This can be a wonderful gift to the Savior. -LDS.org on the Relief Society page today

I was wondering if anyone would be interested in baking cakes for CDS (Center for Developmental Services) for Thursday, February 12th or Friday, February 13th. CDS helps kids who are behind due to autism, developmental delays, speech, & a million other things. Our little boy Jared was born with oral sensory dysfunction - he could not suck on a bottle - he would just fall asleep. CDS had OTs who met with me & taught exercises for Jared to help him develop normally; it made all the difference.

The cakes are a homemade whipping cream pound cake (yum-o) that is made in a bundt pan. It has to be homemade & follow the recipe that they send. If you can't make a cake, you could help by delivering them too. I can deliver the cakes to CDS on the 12th.

Here's the info from Hands on Greenville (a great site for finding service opportunities - all you have to do is sign up & show up!) - http://www.handsongreenville.org/projects/viewProject.php?_mode=occurrenceView&_action=load&sFrom=monthlyCalendar&ixActivity=704&ixAffiliateRegion=&sZipcode=&bAvailable=&dtBegin=2009-2-12&dtEnd=2009-2-12

Or here's the information from the site -
UW-Bake a Cake for Center for Developmental Services

Agency: Center for Development Services

Description: Each year around Valentine’s Day, we recruit volunteers to make home-made cakes for special delivery to some of out most generous donors. We expect to deliver over 75 cakes in 2009 and need lots of bakers to make it happen. WE provide the recipe and the cardboard cake round to put the cake on and ask that our volunteers donate the ingredients and the time to bake and/or deliver a cake. WE need to have the cakes brought to CDS on February 11th or 12th (preferably the 12th)). Our doors open at 7:45 am and we stay open until 5:45pm so cakes may be dropped off before or after work. If you’re not a Baker, you can still help! we need volunteers to help deliver the cakes to our donors the day before Valentine’s Day (since it falls on a Saturday).

This project is approved for volunteers with the following restrictions: Allow Pending Members

Draw Close to the Lord

During our young adulthood and throughout our lives, our closest and choicest association should be with the Savior. He sets the perfect example of a true friend. He possesses charity and long-suffering for our shortcomings; He offers gentle and sometimes strong nudgings to follow Him; He is patient and kind but firm in His commands; He wants the best for us; and He helps us achieve our highest potential on earth and in heaven.

He is also unwavering. There will be times when, despite our best efforts, we will struggle to find close associates who share or respect our desires to live the gospel. We may be in circumstances where there simply are few people with common values or interests. Our efforts to develop friendships may be rejected. We may be faced with cultivating new relationships as we make our own personal changes. Throughout these times, the Savior stands steadfast with us as we stand steadfast with Him. He will see us through storms and through calm.

We are true disciples of Jesus Christ when we live His commandments. And we are true friends to others when we make it easier for them to do so too.

How can you decide whom to marry? by little kids

Kids contemplate marriage.

How would you make your marriage work?
Tell your wife that she looks pretty, even if she looks like a truck.
Ricky, age 10

How can a stranger tell if two people are married?
You might have to guess, based on whether they seem to be yelling at the same kids.
Derrick, age 8

What do you think your mom and dad have in common?
Both don’t want any more kids.
Lori, age 8

What do most people do on a date?
Dates are for having fun, and people should use them to get to know each other. Even boys have something to say if you listen long enough.
Lynnette, age 8 (isn’t she a treasure?)

On the first date, they just tell each other lies and that usually gets them interested enough to go for a second date.
Martin, age 10

What would you do on a first date that was turning sour?
I’d run home and play dead. The next day I would call all the newspapers and make sure they wrote about me in all the dead columns.
Craig, age 9

When is it okay to kiss someone?
When they’re rich.
Pam, age 7

The law says you have to be eighteen, so I wouldn’t want to mess with that.
Curt, age 7

The rule goes like this: If you kiss someone, then you should marry them and have kids with them. It’s the right thing to do.
Howard, age 8

What is the right age to get married?
Twenty-three is the best age because you know the person FOREVER by then.
Camille, age 10

No age is good to get married at. You got to be a fool to get married.
Freddie, age 6 (very wise for his age)

Is it better to be single or married?
I don’t know which is better, but I’ll tell you one thing. I’m never going to have sex with my wife. I don’t want to be all grossed out.
Theodore, age 8

It’s better for girls to be single but not for boys. Boys need someone to clean up after them.
Anita, age 9 (bless you child)

How do you decide whom to marry?
You got to find somebody who likes the same stuff. Like, if you like sports, she should like it that you like sports, and she should keep the chips and dip coming.
Alan, age 10

No person really decides before they grow up who they’re going to marry. God decides it all way before, and you get to find out later who you’re stuck with.
Kristen, age 10
